Cereal Bars
Often, these are known as Rice Krispies Treats... but there's a secret. You can make these with ANY cereal.
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 package (10 oz/about 40 count) regular marshmallows
- 6 cups of cereal
- OPTIONAL: 1/2 cup peanut butter (good with less-flavored or chocolate cereals)
Cereal Suggestions
- Rice Krispies (the classic)
- Cocoa Krispies (mmm, chocolate, and sticking to that original texture)
- Fruity Pebbles (more color and flavor, same texture as the original)
- Cinnamon Toast Crunch (a personal favorite)
- Reeces Puffs (need I continue?)
- Lucky Charms (double the marshmallow!)
- Captain Crunch (sweet and fluffy)
- literally any cereal, I can't stress this enough, anything you would be willing to eat in a bowl with a spoon but also there's MARSHMALLOWS. Exception is MAYBE plain Cheerios, but even honey nut cheerios are fine. Granola can get a little dense.
Process
- Microwave the butter and marshmallows (and optionally peanut butter) together for two minutes on High, and stir.
- Microwave again for one minute on high, and stir again until smooth.
- Add the cereal, and combine until the cereal is well coated and there's a consistent mix.
- Using wax paper or a buttered spatula, press mixture into a 9x13 pan coated liberally with cooking spray (or, whole or in scoops, just onto wax paper on the counter).
- Allow to cool, cut, and serve. Best the same day, but can be stored in a ziplock or other airtight fashion.
