Squash and Shroom: The Shroom Swap

Enjoy some additional silent comics! This one is slightly food-themed enough that there could be recipes here, in theory.

Two goblins are walking along towards the right, with one riding on the other one's shoulders. The upper goblin, assumed to be "Squash," is wearing a green and yellow plaid shirt and olive pants. The lower goblin, assumed to be "Shroom," is wearing a red top, spotted white, with a leather strap across their chest, and bleached denim pants. Behind the pair, on their backs, are a wooden shortbow, a quiver of arrows with blue fletchings, and a cast iron pot. On the right side of the image, after the goblins, is a large banner proclaiming "SQUASH & SHROOM"; "Squash" drawn in green, and "Shroom" drawn in red, with two red mushrooms with white spots for "o"s, with accompanying stylized illustration of a large yellow and green squash, and several more red and white mushrooms.

Two goblins. Squash, who was on top in the previous panel, is on their knees, balancing a cast iron pot over a small pile of sticks. Shroom, the goblin who was on the bottom in the previous panel, is flat to the ground, blowing on the sticks. They are attempting to start a fire under the pot, which is only just starting to smolder. The bow and quiver of arrows are tossed on the ground nearby.

The fire has started under the cast iron pot. Squash is expressing a speech bubble containing a blue bowl with orange inside it, and a question mark, implied to be saying "Soup?" Shroom is walking between two bushes to the left, back view, with a speech bubble indicating only a brown mushroom and an exclamation point. Shroom's pants are patched on the back with the same fabric as Squash's shirt.

Perspective change. Shroom's head is peeking out from between two bushes on the right, and is expressing a speech bubble still containing a brown mushroom and an orange exclamation point. On the left are four brown mushrooms, much like the one in the speech bubble, but less flat and more three-dimensionally shaded. The largest mushroom is expressing a thought cloud containing only the letter "Z".

An action panel; several things have happened. The bushes are no longer in view. Shroom the goblin has approached the brown mushrooms, crushing the smallest three, and ripped a chunk out of the largest. Motion blur leads from the chunk to the mushroom, and the chunk is clearly bound for Shroom the goblin's wide open mouth. The large brown mushroom, who had been sleeping, is now awake and has jumped into the air, all limbs out in surprise, with a popped-cloud image containing a very small "Z" and a large exclamation point, emphasized with red and orange watercolor splashes of pain in the background. The mushroom has eyes, which are wide open, and gleaming with many lights.

The small brown mushrooms remain crushed on the ground. Shroom the goblin has risen into the air, levitating as if in zero gravity, with their eyes each as big as their head, bugging out and full of rainbow stars, in a halo of technicolor neon paint splatters; they are incredibly intoxicated. Shroom the mushroom is getting to their feet, eyes scrunched in anger, with a dark thought cloud producing lightning.

Shroom the goblin has collapsed to the ground, on their back, seen from the feet. A dark, faintly goblin-shaped ghost is rising upwards in a smaller splatter of rainbow paint splash. To the right stands the Shroom the mushroom, looking at the goblin, confused, with a question mark motif floating in the background in dark paint.

Shroom the mushroom has approached the body of Shroom the goblin. The mushroom has developed a large, jagged mouth, slightly open, and is holding the hand of the goblin near it, as if kissing... or nibbling.

Shroom the mushroom now stands directly behind the body of Shroom the goblin. The goblin is missing the arm that was being touched in the previous panel. The mushroom has all but unhinged their "jaw," and is revealing a gaping and jagged dark maw that's easily the height of the goblin.

The bushes that Shroom the goblin walked through have reappeared on the left. No characters are visible there, but several dead leaves and orange asterisks are present, indicating rustling bushes, and a speech bubble that contains the head of a goblin and a question mark, as though someone behind the bushes is calling for a goblin. On the right, Shroom the mushroom is sitting as they were first seen, head tilted down, but this time in a pool of crimson blood shining with green, wearing two green and bloody goblin ears that have flopped over limply, with a hand dangling out from under the mushroom cap, in Shroom the goblin's skin tone and with a sleeve that is red with white spots. Shroom the mushroom is emitting a ragged speech/sound effect bubble containing a shattered stick and several dry leaves, indicating an ominous crunching noise.

Squash the goblin from the title page has appeared between the bushes to the left, still calling for their companion with a speech bubble containing the head of a goblin. They have a confused expression on their face. Shroom the mushroom has looked up, eyes gleaming, horrifing maw still gapped open (but not so far as to swallow a goblin) and dripping blood, still wearing Shroom the goblin's ears, one of which is sliding down, sitting in a pool of more blood. Shroom the mushroom is also emitting a thought cloud in the shape of a heart, containing a steak, bacon, and sausages; as if thinking of Squash the goblin as an additional meal.

Squash the goblin and Shroom the mushroom stand facing each other. Squash, on the left, has their hands out defensively, and is emitting a three-part speech bubble with a goblin head and a question mark, a mushroom and a question mark, and both a goblin and a mushroom with several question marks and exclamation points, as if to say "Goblin? Mushroom? Goblin and mushroom?!?". Shroom the mushroom is on the right, still wearing one limp and bloody goblin ear, and eating the other one, emitting another effect bubble with a smaller broken stick, indicating a crunch.

Perspective change. A relatively high-detail shot of Squash the goblin, waist-up and head-on, proffering a blue bowl of orange soup with colorful bits in it. They have a green and yellow plaid shirt, and crossed bright green eyes, look remarkably joyful, and are emmitting a speech bubble with a simplified version of the soup bowl and an exclamation point.

Perspective change. Sitting on the ground to the left, legs splayed out in front, is Squash the goblin, holding a blue bowl up to their face, with some of the soup from the above panel spilling down their front. To the right is Shroom the mushroom, whose bowl is stuck to their face by forces unknown, arms by their side, spilled all over with and sitting in a puddle of soup. No communication is happening.

Shroom the mushroom is now wearing the same leather strap that Shroom the goblin was wearing in the first panel. Squash the goblin is climbing onto Shroom's shoulder, wearing the short bow and the cast iron pot. The mushroom is emitting an empty, question mark shaped, thought cloud.

The first panel repeats itself, with some changes. Shroom the mushroom is now walking under Squash the goblin, but wearing Shroom the goblin's leather strap and quiver. The stacked characters are now on the right, with the title card "Squash & Shroom" on the left, with the simplified marrow and mushroom illustration. The word "Shroom" and the mushrooms are now brown, to match Shroom the mushroom. There is a thought cloud present with a bowl of soup and a yellow happy face, connected to both Squash and Shroom.
