The Tale of Momlette

The story of how a little kobold came into possession of a dragon hoard

Once upon a time in a far away fantasy land, there lived a little kobold known as Omlette.  She was named that because she loved anything made from eggs very much, but most of all omlettes.

And so, one day, Omlette came home to her little kobold house dragging a big bag of delicious ingredients.  She had peppers and onions, spinach and mushrooms, and three of the biggest, shiniest eggs she had ever seen anywhere.  An omlette made from those eggs would have to be the biggest, shiniest, most delicious omlette ever.

But to cook a big egg, Omlette needed her big pan.  And where had that big pan gone?  It was a very large pan, and had been used last time for a bath... Well, may as well have another bath before cleaning it out.  And who left this mess all over the table?  Omlette began cleaning the table, hoping for a place to sit and eat that big, shiny, delicious egg.  But then the counters needed to be clean, too... and where had the whisk gone?  Had adventurers borrowed all the forks again?  Were purple curtains really appropriate for a kobold living alone?

And Omlette, in her busy life, forgot all about putting away the groceries.  It wasn't the first time, and it won't be the last.  In fact, she forgot about the groceries for a few days... long enough to think to herself that she would really, really like a nice, big, shiny, beautiful omlette to eat.  Just one more thing to do, really; and Omlette stepped out of her little kobold house to go get peppers and onions and spinach and mushrooms and eggs, forgetting all about the pile of exactly those things that were already there.

And while Omlette was gone, up to all of the many things that go into grocery shopping... was there any mail?  Did she already get milk?  What is the exact difference between chunky and extra chunky peanut butter?  ...her forgotten big, shiny, delicious looking eggs were looking less and less delicious, and more and more a little bit broken.

Some time later, Omlette stepped back through the door of her little kobold hole dragging yet another bag of the most delicious omlette ingredients.  Onions and garlic, bacon and scallions, cheese, and of course eggs.  Not the biggest or the shiniest eggs, but they would do for a perfectly delicious omlette.

And while dragging in this bag of treats, Omlette bumped right into the previous one, which she had completely forgotten about.  Those big, beautiful shiny eggs looked a little bit different than when she had seen them last.  Not quite so much like eggs at all, or even cracked eggs, but rather a lot like egg-sploded shell and three...

...Dragons?

Omlette stared at the dragons.  The dragons stared back.  They were big and shiny, just like the eggs they had arrived in.  And by the looks of the kitchen, they had already eaten most of the onions and peppers and mushrooms that had been in the bag with them... and the peanut butter, both the chunky and the extra chunky, and licked the empty milk carton, and taken exactly one bite out of the soap.  And for all that, they still looked hungry.

Omlette carefully set the new bag of groceries on the counter, hopefully out of reach, and went to fetch her big pan.  She was going to have that omlette, and it looked like she would have to share this one with three hungry, growing dragons.

And Omlette finally made herself a big, shiny, delicious omlette, with bacon and garlic and onions and cheese, and shared it with the three little dragons, who were not so very little to Omlette at all.  In fact, they were already bigger than her, and all different colors; pink and yellow and pretty sky blue.

"Now, what am I going to do with you three?" She asked the babies.  Being baby dragons, with mouths full of omlette, they didn't answer.
